WORKING IN SUCH CLOSE PROXIMITY TO YOUR HUSBAND MOST DAYS,
IS IT EVER HARD TO FIND BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR WORK LIVES AND PERSONAL LIVES?
In this profession, you live and breathe tattooing. When you’re not in your shop, you’re usually talking
about tattoos, looking at tattoos or thinking about tattooing. It’s pretty awesome that I get to share
stories from my day with Josh, because he gets it 100%. When we are at work we are so focused
on tattooing that I hardly get to see him. Also, we are virtually the same person he just has a beard!
Working with each other is easy because we are not only husband and wife but we are best friends.
FAVOURITE, MOTTO, PHRASE OR LYRIC?
That’s a tricky one! For someone who listens to music for 9 hours of the day,
you’d think I’d have something to offer here haha! I’m a big animal rights advocate so
“Friends not food” would have to be one of them.
ALTHOUGH YOU AND YOUR PARTNER ARE BOTH FULL TIME TATTOO ARTISTS, YOU’VE ALSO WORKED
TOGETHER ON MUSICAL PROJECTS. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT THERE WILL BE MORE OF IN THE FUTURE?
As if we couldn’t spend more time together then we already do, we also have the same hobbies and interested outside of work.
I write and play music and so does Josh. We have collaborated on music a lot together and often pop up to Sydney to record
with our friend Sonny from STL Studios. When it comes to my music, Josh helps me write the drums and when it comes to
his bands I usually do guest vocals and sometimes keys.
WHO’S SOMEONE THAT DESERVES MORE RECOGNITION?
I don’t know if this is off topic, but I would have to say all of the people out there who are working directly with saving and helping animals.
To dedicate your life to another’s is pure selflessness and something I wish I had the strength to do.
YOU’RE GOING ON A PICNIC, WHAT’S IN YOUR BASKET?
I would have to pop in some Smith and Deli sandwiches, a veggo bar because they’re what dreams are made of, and some hot tea
HAS MARRIAGE MADE YOU LOOK AT THE WORLD AND THE FUTURE DIFFERENTLY?
Hell no, I never grew up dreaming of a big white wedding. My mum and dad got married after being together for 20 years,
and when they got married it was a surprise wedding! I was around 8, my sister was 13 and we attended the wedding.
It was a big halloween party, mum was Morticia Addams and dad was Dracula, my sister and I were both Wednesday Addams.
The celebrant arrived dressed up as a reverent and they got married! We’ve always been driven individuals but together we
make a very supportive duo. With or without the paper we would be doing the exact same thing and heading towards to the same goals.
WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MOMENT?
We love rock and roll, and country. I grew up listening to rockabilly so it never gets old. My dad plays double bass in a rock and roll band,
he’s been doing that his whole life and is still touring now.
WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE GETTING INTO THE TATTOO INDUSTRY?
There’s a lot of pressure in the tattoo industry from your peers, social media and most of all yourself. You want to be giving your clients your
best work every day and there’s a lot of responsibility in that. I wouldn’t wish that I knew this before starting, but it something I’ve come to
get used to and is a big part of working for me, the pressure and seriousness of tattooing.
DOC BROWN HANDS YOU THE KEYS TO THE TIME MACHINE….WHERE DO YOU GO?
I would love to visit the 50s/60’s. Take me back in time but don’t send me forward! The world we live in is already a dark place,
I can’t imagine where we are heading even within the next decade. It’s a scary thought.
WHAT’S A MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE THAT’S TAKEN YOUR BREATH AWAY?
Recently Josh and I went on our honeymoon and we went stargazing at Mauna Kea in Kauai, Hawaii. It was spectacular.
I’ve never felt so small and so in awe of our little earth. We looked into a galaxy through a telescope that was over a billion years in the past.
We saw the craters in the moon and we saw planets and shooting stars and it was the most magical experience. Anytime we go traveling it
affects me and my work ethic. I always come back feeling so inspired and refreshed and so fortunate to be living the life I am,
having the freedom to travel and learn.
