ANICA COSTA | JEWELLER

posted in: Blog | 0

Hi, I”m Anica and i’m a jeweler.
I’ve done a lot of things in my life. I’ve booked bands, studied nursing, Hotel manager, cabinet maker, artist, screen printer and everything in between
but jewellery is where i feel at home and where i can take everything i’ve learnt over my 28 years and put it into one project.
Living in melbourne with my boyfriend and two dogs is where i call my home but travelling is where i’m at peace.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT BECOMING A JEWLER THAT YOU MAY NOT HAVE EXPECTED?

How much i’d love it. I never used to wear any jewellery and the only piece of jewellery i really owned for a long time was a aruan evenstars pendant, a replica
from the Lord of the Rings movies that my mum bought for my 16th birthday.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Reading books and taking my dogs to the beach. I’v done a lot of things in my life but those two things are a definite constant in my life haha

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Books!!!! I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction books and i just love how they can transport you to another world and take you on so many different adventures.
I’m currently writing a couple of books at the moment and the world that i’ve created is where a lot of the inspiration for my jewellery comes from. Some of the pieces
from my current exhibition are from a character called The Night Huntress.

BIGGEST PET PEEVE?

Liars and people who don’t do their best.
we all have the same hours in the day and it’s really frustrating to see people half arsing things and not putting time and passion into it.

FAVOURITE PHRASE, MOTTO OR LYRIC?

Live a life full of adventure.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE AND HATE ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU’RE IN?

Within the art industry in general i think there’s a lot of love and community that we create but peer to peer i feel that some people
create tension and competition that just isn’t needed. I’ve seen artists bully other artist too often and we need to remember that we’re
all just making and creating and think about that next time you want to put negativity out into the world.

FAVOURITE FRUIT?

Avocado and mangos will have to have a fight to the death, i can’t choose.
Actually……mango. I’ve had one too many shit avocados lately hahah

WHAT GETS YOU OUT OF THE BED IN THE MORNING?

Making.
I’m always excited to get up, make a tea and get to work every morning.

BEACH OR RAINFOREST?

There’s nothing better than taking the dogs to the beach.

WHAT WOULD 16 YEAR OLD SELF THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING RIGHT NOW?

16 year old me was an absolute asshole and if i met her and told her all the amazing thing we get to do she would say “……pffft….whatever, get away from me”

WHAT’S A MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE THAT’S TAKEN YOUR BREATH AWAY?

A couple of years ago I went to New Zealand with my boyfriend and we were going to all of the Lord of the Rings filming locations and there were a few moments that were incredible.
we fond the filming location for Edoras which is actually a mountain called, Mount Sunday and it’s just incredible to see that the surrounding mountains were all real. No CGI no face mountains
it was all just natural beauty and fucking epic.
