Hi! My name is Amanda and I’m a Perth girl who moved to Melbourne in 2009 to broaden my proverbial horizons and chase my creative dreams.
I’ve been drawing, painting and generally making a mess for as long as I can remember, and in 2016 I was given the incredible opportunity
of joining the amazing artists at Hot Copper Studio as the shop apprentice. I love cats, rock music and anything kawaii…and fruit. I love fruit.

WORST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

To stop drawing cartoons and focus on ‘serious’ art. What a dumb idea! I got into drawing because I loved anime and comics as a kid,
but I had my parents pushing me to be a lawyer or a teacher on one side, and my art teachers and uni professors pushing me to
focus on realism and conceptual art on the other. I actually got so bummed by it that I quit drawing for nearly 10 years!
There wasn’t much space for cute, quirky, ‘girly’ art in the 2000s, which thankfully has changed so much in the
last couple of years. On the upside, I can add ‘art school dropout’ to my list of achievements.

YOU’VE DONE A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS OUTSIDE OF TATTOOING, IF YOU WEREN’T TATTOOING WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING RIGHT NOW?

My other dream job outside of tattooing would be working in game design as a concept artist. I’ve always been a giant nerd
and I love dreaming up imaginary worlds and characters of my own.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE IN FIVE YEARS?

Hopefully still improving on my art and working with the rad babes at Hot Copper!

BIGGEST PET PEEVE?

Being told what to do. I’m a Taurus to a T and I’m stubborn as fuck!

YOU’VE DONE QUITE A BIT OF TRAVELLING OVER THE YEARS, IS THERE A PARTICULAR CITY OR COUNTRY THAT STANDS OUT TO YOU?

Finally getting to travel to Japan in 2016 was by far my biggest travel highlight. It’s no surprise that it’s such a popular tourist destination right now.
it’s an incredibly beautiful country with such friendly people and a fascinating history and culture. Also, everything there has been carefully engineered for maximum cuteness.

FAVOURITE FRUIT?

Hardest question you’ve asked by far!! How can I even choose?! I mean, bananas are a staple in my diet. Cherries are my special treat,
since they’re so dang expensive. But avocados are such an all-rounder, I mean you can turn them into avo toast, guacamole, smoothies, ice cream…
Dragon fruit is a very aesthetically appealing fruit…and you can’t go past an ice-cold watermelon on a hot summer’s day…when would you like me to stop?

WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE AWAY WHEN THEY LOOK AT YOUR ART?

I hope I can convey a sense of fun and playfulness in my tattoos and paintings. Life is short, the physical body is temporary
and we shouldn’t be scared to decorate ourselves with things that make us smile!

WHAT’S A SPECIAL TALENT YOU HAVE THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT?

I’m an amazing singer. The rest of humanity probably disagrees, though.

SANDY BEACH OR SNOWY MOUNTAIN?

Sandy beach for sure! I really miss the great beaches in Perth.

WHAT’S A MOMENT IN MARAUDERS LIFE THAT’S TAKEN YOUR BREATH AWAY?

Flying into Melbourne in February 2009 – I’d basically decided to move there without even really giving it much thought; I just chucked all my stuff in boxes
and jumped on a plane with literally no plan in mind. I’d never visited Melbourne before moving here, and I don’t even think I hugged my parents goodbye!
Flying into the city at night and seeing the massive expanse of lights which just goes on forever (at least compared to tiny lil’ Perth) I had a full on moment of
“holy shit, what am I doing!?!” I felt every emotion possible all at the same time – fear, excitement, regret, happiness, sadness – and it was deeply overwhelming.
I highly recommend everyone experience that at least once in their lives.
